History of Piedmont Precast

Piedmont Precast history traces back to the 1920s with Fred Patterson, a prominent Atlanta Funeral Director, and Frank Bowen, a construction supervisor. Their collaboration on a high-profile funeral home project led to a lasting business relationship. Recognizing a need for better quality in burial vaults, Patterson asked Bowen to explore the industry, leading to the establishment of Wilbert Burial Vault Company in 1937, licensed by Chicago's Wilbert W. Hasse.

The company expanded throughout Georgia, moving to Fulton Industrial in 1973 and diversifying into concrete pavers in the 1970's. In 2002, Glen Bowen, with a background in entrepreneurship, took over as CEO, and in 2005, Piedmont Precast introduced Redi-Rock™ retaining walls.

Under the leadership of Frank C. Bowen IV, who joined in 2005, the company emphasized quality control and product development. Today, Piedmont Precast offers a range of engineered wall products, including Gravix® and Rosetta®, continuing to build on its rich legacy with innovation and commitment to excellence.

Services

Set Up

Piedmont Precast offers the Wilbert Way (WW) burial set up. It consists of an above ground seal and a lowering device, also known as The Wilbert Way Lowering Device.

Grass & Chairs

For families interested in a graveside service or added comfort at the burial site, Piedmont Precast offers grass and folding chairs to cover the gravesite area and will be carefully arranged beneath tents. Piedmont Precast handles the delivery, setup, and removal of these items.

Tents

Piedmont Precast sets up a 15x15 tent at the gravesite for funeral services. This tent provides coverage for the burial area and a shaded, comfortable space for family members to gather during the ceremony.

Nameplate

Nameplates add a personal touch to burial vaults and are standard on all Continental vaults and above. For families seeking to further personalize the burial experience, additional options are available to display cherished memories at the gravesite. In addition to the standard nameplate, families can choose from a variety of customization options, such as symbols, photos, or meaningful inscriptions, to ensure that the memory of their loved one is beautifully and uniquely reflected at the site. These personal touches not only enhance the appearance of the vault but also create a lasting tribute that captures the essence of the individual’s life and legacy.

Grave Digging & Disinterment

Piedmont Precast offers comprehensive grave digging and disinterment services. Using "excavation" tractors, Piedmont efficiently prepares graves, minimizing the time required for this process. The operation includes both opening and closing the grave. Additionally, Piedmont Precast offers a premium hand-dug grave service. Should it become necessary to relocate a vault, Piedmont will assist with everything from locating to transferring the vault to a new site.

Vault Transfer

The Vault Transfer service is available between Wilbert franchises and dealers. When a burial request falls outside the franchise's service area, Piedmont Precast coordinates with the relevant franchise or dealer based on the cemetery's location. Services such as tents, grass, chairs, and grave digging are handled collaboratively between franchises for each individual burial.

First Responders

When a hero falls, Wilbert is there.

Our “Commemorating First Responders” program provides families of firefighters, law enforcement officers and emergency medical personnel who have died in the line of duty with a tribute worthy of their valor and sacrifice.

At no charge to the family, Wilbert and our licensees donate a customized Wilbert Stainless Steel Triune® burial vault. If the choice is cremation, we offer a selection of four urns, as well as a Stainless Steel Triune urn vault for memorial tribute. If permitted, a WilbertWay® graveside service may also be included.

Join us as we help families honor heroic lives, sacrificed in valiant service to neighbor and community.
